Hi! I am Valerie Dao, cofounder of MKHS Heal the Bay club. I am excited to share my love for our environment with you! Here in Monterey Park, we may not seem to be near any major water sources, so why name my club Heal the Bay?

First, we are based off of the Santa Monica-centered nonprofit organization Heal the Bay. They are well-known throughout Southern California and help improve the state of water ways in Long Beach. We do beach and creek cleanups with them.

Secondly, water connects us all. The water cycle is very involved in almost all aspects of our lives; we require water for survival. Trash on the street, oil drippings on the freeways, objects disposed in the toilets and sink all can end up in the ocean. This is why it’s important to start at the source: our own homes. We are one step closer to a cleaner beach and environment if we start at our own community.
